Ok..so I took a little break..

I kinda got away from my blog for a bit, but then I realized that I had nearly 15,000 views. So....maybe I should get started again! I am not sure where to start. We have done a few things since 2011. Visited great restaurants, visited NYC a couple times, adopted a dog, went to Steeple Chase, went to California a couple times. Vic rode motorcycles (big surprise) and jet skis! There are more nieces and nephews.:) Just a few things that we have done in the course of a year or two. I plan to start writing again and documenting what is going on.

Moe's Original BBQ


Vic's a BBQ enthusiast, so we go to a lot of BBQ places. This one I actually liked. We have tried others and I will admit that Pig and Chic is good, but this is better. I usually get the smoked chicken but much to my surprise and delight, they had smoked turkey breast. I got the turkey and Vic got the chicken. Both were great! They were moist, unlike a lot of BBQ places where you have to add BBQ sauce to make it juicy. This BBQ did not require anything but a fork. The sides were great. Some of the traditional mixed with a little modern flare. The atmosphere was cozy, but it has a bar area which I am sure is inviting as well.

Distractions at restaurants are everywhere: cell phones, of course; overly chatty customers at a too-close table; and, increasingly, someone in the restaurant photographing the food at their table. Shutter snaps and flash pops never make a meal taste better. Some restaurants, like Momofuku Ko and Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare, do ban the practice, but others embrace the idea of diners turning dinner into their own personal photo shoot. I bring this up not to proselytize, but instead to call attention to this irritant and to set up a few ground rules that we can hopefully all agree with in order to minimize our impact on others.
When I asked César Ramirez, chef at Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare, about it, he told me that the whole concept confounds him: "What happened to the days when people went to a restaurant and just had a good time?" He's taken a lot of flack for the photography ban he instituted at his restaurant, but explains that he had two reasons for doing so: The first is that it's annoying both for him, and for other diners, if a customer is snapping shots of the eighteen courses served at the restaurant. His second reason surprised me: Photos floating around the web will ruin the element of surprise for his customers, most of whom make their reservations six weeks out.

Going back to Cali.




The first photo is the view from the "backseat" of a Harley.We rented a couple and cruised the PCH. Number two is Melrose. A bike shop with a cool alley way. Third, is a night out on the town with some great friends. Last, is an amazing view of the beach in Malibu. Great trip! Hope to do it again soon.

JCT Kitchen.





I would definitely recommend this place if you are near Howell Mill Road. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy. It would be great for a romantic date. The food is excellent and so is the homemade lemonade. We had fried chicken and salmon. I give them both an A and the green beans were certainly a seconds kind of side. Sadly we ate too much to hit the dessert menu. Maybe next time.

The idea for the website began a few years ago, when Alabama natives Marla Graves and Megann Rogala made a drunken pact to start a cooking show. They had eaten several homemade brandy balls and drank far too much of the brandy that went into them, and at the time, the idea seemed brilliant. They didn't think much about their promise for about a year after that, but then Graves bought a nice camera and her husband agreed to be a cameraman. Inspired, she decided to act on their idea.


I say that we represent Pleasant Valley pretty well. Way to go Marla. So proud.
